What is the Awesome Blogger Commendation?

Have you noticed that when you are scanning your social media accounts there are some entries that you immediately swipe past, some that you deliberate over, and some that you always read?

The blog posts that you, and I, always read are by people that we know consistently produce fantastic content that is worthy of our time. They are awesome bloggers.

And why would we want to recognise the work of these individuals?

“Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary.”

Margaret Cousins

This is a tribute to those bloggers and the content that they provide.

This is the Awesome Blogger Commendation!

Awesome Blogger Commendation – The Rules

Rules, Pirates of the Caribbean style:

“You didn’t beat me. You ignored the rules of engagement.”

Will Turner

“…that’s not much incentive for me to fight fair then is it?”

Captain Jack Sparrow

Rules, Awesome Blogger Commendation style:

  1. Do a blog post to let your readers know of your commendation.
  2. Include these rules in your post.
  3. Include the Awesome Blogger Commendation image in the post.
  4. Within the post, thank the person that nominated you and include a link to their site.
  5. Entertain your readers by structuring your post such that it has:
    • 1 link to a YouTube video (either your own or one that you like).
    • 2 things about you that your readers probably don’t know.
    • 3 photos (your choice) with links to 3 of your posts.
    • 4 questions for your nominated recipients of the Awesome Blogger Commendation (see 6 below).
    • Your answers to the questions posed by the blogger that nominated you.
  6. Nominate your chosen recipients of the commendation. Include the name of the blog, a link to its home page, a brief description of the blog, and a link to one of your favourites posts by that blogger. There is no minimum or maximum number of nominations – use your judgement!
  7. Tell your nominees of their Awesome Blogger Commendation! Email, DM, PM, whatever works for you and them.
  8. Tell everybody else! Let people know about the great bloggers that you have nominated.

YouTube Video

OK, this was my first Richie’s Room video on YouTube.

I love this video. It’s a perfect example, by my dog Harvey, of a Sit/Stay and then a Recall to the whistle.

When the video starts, look towards the top, left corner to see Harvey waiting.

Two Things You May Not Know About Me

OK, I’m going to go with a couple of things from my younger days.

  1. When I was school-age I was a very keen, and reasonably talented, swimmer.

As well as completing the various survival grades (including having to swim while clothed, and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the deep end of the pool) I once swam 2 miles in one session. That’s 128 lengths of a 25 metre pool.
  2. I’ve always been a keen player of video games.

While at university I played quite a lot of an arcade game that I was already quite good at – Williams Defender. I became so proficient that one day (to satisfy a bet made while under the influence of alcohol!) I made one game last from 10:30 in the morning until 10.30 at night!

12 hours entertainment for 10p!!! How’s that for value?

Three Photos Linking to Blog Posts

Below you’ll find featured images and links to 3 of my favourite posts.

Best Christmas Presents for Dogs

My first ‘review’ type of post. I quite enjoyed designing the review boxes and completing the product reviews. And the cherry on the top? I donated all of the purchased items to a local dog shelter as an early Christmas present for the dogs there.

Rock-Steady Recall for Dogs

This is one of my biggest (just over 9,000 words) and most popular posts. Having a good recall for your dog is absolutely vital – if there is a potential danger you want to know that your dog will come back to you when called.

Collecting a New Puppy

I’ve added this one for nostalgic reasons – it was my very first blog post! And it’s still quite popular now – I guess people will always be looking for canine companions, whether that is in puppy form or getting an older dog from a shelter.

Four Questions for Nominees

Here is where we get to pose some questions in order to get to know a little more about our bloggers.

  1. Tell us about your blogging history. What got you started in the world of blogging? How many blogs do you currently have? Have you had others previously?
  2. What was the last book that you read?
  3. What are your favourite charities?
  4. Imagine that you could instantly learn any new skill (like Neo in The Matrix). What skill would you choose?

6 Nominations for the Awesome Blogger Commendation

And now, here are my nominations for the Awesome Blogger Commendation:

  1. Alicia : The Bloggers Incentive
As the name suggests, The Bloggers Incentive is a blog that is designed to help other bloggers.
I’ve always struggled with Pinterest so I particularly enjoyed Alicia’s post about How to create a viral pin on Pinterest.
  2. Claire : Claire Mac
The Claire Mac blog is dedicated to parenting and lifestyle topics.
In this post Claire talks about the importance of life insurance. I know, it may not seem like an exciting topic but it is vitally important and something that the majority of people should at least consider.
  3. Corinne : Skinnedcartree
Corinne has a UK lifestyle blog that encompasses everything from pregnancy to (Pinterest) pins.
There are really valuable posts on this blog, including the enlightening ‘5 Reasons I Leave Your Blog and Never Return‘. Every blogger should read.
  4. Damion : The Northern Dad
The Northern Dad covers a wide range of topics including family life, parenting, lifestyle, health, entertainment, food, reviews, and tech.
Damion is a font of wisdom when it comes to coding for your blog. Take a look at his Useful WordPress code snippets.
  5. Helen : Crispy Confessions
Cool name, right? Helen’s blog is a lifestyle blog from a self-proclaimed chocoholic.
I loved this post about Helen overcoming her fear of cats by visiting a cat cafe. No, it isn’t where cats go to drink coffee! Read the post to find out more.
  6. Jaya : Nin Chronicles
Jaya is a literary artist. She uses words instead of paint to create fantastic images in the mind of the reader.
You’ll often find that even relatively short pieces can say a great deal – for example, Intuition.
  7. Jenny : Jenny in Neverland
On Jenny’s blog she talks about blogging, personal development, and well-being. Jenny is very open about her blogging venture and is always willing to help new bloggers to benefit from her experience.
In this post Jenny reviews some nano jewellery (no, I hadn’t heard of it either – take a look!)
  8. Jordanne : The Life of a Glasgow Girl
Jordanne operates a lifestyle blog encompassing a range of topics including lifestyle, self-care, and blogging.
If you are ‘Looking to boost your blog traffic‘ then read Jordanne’s suggestions.
  9. Lisa : Lisa’s Notebook
Lisa’s blog covers a vast array of topics. Which is what you’d expect from somebody who describes herself as ‘a Content Creator, Blog Writer, and Blogger from Bath, a mum of one, cat concierge, gardener, beauty, gin and tea lover, and Plantagenet enthusiast!’.
Not being particularly green-fingered myself, I love to read Lisa’s monthly gardening tips.
  10. Rosie : Love Rosiee
Rosie’s blog is a lifestyle blog reviewing and trialling beauty, fashion, skincare & events in and around the home counties!
If you are looking to make money from your blog then you’ll want to read Rosie’s guide to the 5 Things You Need in Your Media Kit.
  11. Simona, Fred, Cristina : The Grumpy Olive
The ladies at The Grumpy Olive write about recipes, lifestyle, style, travel, books, and coffee.
Well, I’m feeling a little peckish as I near the end of this post so let’s finish this section with a link to Simona’s Plum Streusel Pie.

OK, that’s it for my nominations.

Congratulations to each of you and thank you

The bloggers that receive the award are able to nominate other bloggers that they feel are worthy of recognition.

Who created the Awesome Blogger Commendation?

The award was created by the Richie’s Room blog. It was first awarded in September 2021.

How do I receive the Awesome Blogger Commendation?

  1. Start a blog.
  2. Produce awesome content.
  3. Share that content with other bloggers.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3.

I was a horrendous swimmer when I was younger (and still am haha). It’s so interesting to get to know blogging friends better.

    • Hi Vourneen. Thank you very much for your positive feedback. I think swimming is largely a confidence thing – once you are happy being in the water, the actual swimming part is easy 😉 I’m glad that you love the recommended bloggers and I hope you enjoy the ones that you aren’t familiar with.

    • Hi Corinne. No problem – it’s well deserved 🙂 It was called Defender (if you click the ‘Williams Defender’ link it’ll show you a video – it’s pretty basic by today’s standards but back then it was pretty advanced). No food, no drink, and no toilet break! I was rocking from side to side a little towards the end as being stood in one position for that long isn’t really very good for you! 😉

  11. Thank you so much for including me Richie. I’m so honoured to be mentioned and among great company.

Great to learn more about you, I loved swimming in my school years, we had weekly trips to the swimming near the school and it was great getting in the water, so freeing. Amazing that you swam 2 miles! That’s brilliant. I also really like playing video games, we have game days quite often as a family and it’s so fun.

    • Hi Jordanne. You are very welcome – and very deserving. I don’t swim much these days … but still play video games 🙂
